“She Rises Up” – ciné – onu

Maureen Castle Tusty has produced three remarkable and empowering documentaries. Her last documentary, ” She Rises Up,” is about the path of three women from different countries who started their own local businesses. Beginning with very low incomes, they achieved incredible progress after months.
Gladys Yupanqui from Peru – Lima started a market and shined with a cultural dance connected with her economic project. Magatte Wade of Senegal started a cosmetic manufacturing company called “Skin is Skin,” and Selyna Peiris from Sri Lanka led a textile company founded by her mother.

The documentary gave the audience eye – catching scenes about global inequality, resilience and self – determination.
Four powerful women were talking at ciné – onu to tell their working experiences in local businesses.

The moderation was carried out by Ms. Sonja Wintersberger Offier – in – Charge, United Nations Information Service.

Invited guests:
Virpi Stucki:
Chief of Rural Entrepreneurship,Fair Production, Human Security Division at United Nations Industrial Developement: explained the structure that her organization is working towards. It is a three – layered step marked by Identifying the value chain, secondly linking women to markets and thirdly a journey to export markets on a national or international platform. Proudly Ms. Stucki mentioned a new project in Egypt called “Winner”. This project cooperates with European luxury brands from Italy and UNIDO’s mission is to negotiate fair distribution.

Lynn Neubert:
Manager at the United Nations Global Compact Network Austria brought to the table the difficulties that women in different countries have to face.For example the Lack of self- determination, unfair labor conditions or discrimination worldwide. At her organization, she supports  companies around the globe so-called social sustainability.

Barbara Alli:
CEO and Founder of “Hand Made Story” & Performing Artist.
Ms. Alli’s journey has been marked by creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, allowing her to establish a unique brand that celebrates craftsmanship and individuality. She envisions her role not just as a designer, but as a key catalyst for fostering meaningful connections between Africa and Austria. This bilateral approach seeks to enrich both communities, creating opportunities for dialogue, exchange, and mutual growth in the vibrant worlds of fashion and design.

Ms. Sonja Wintersberger mentioned an insightful question regarding the recommendations that panelists might offer to young women aspiring to start their own businesses.

This evening presented a unique opportunity for young women to gather important lessons and inspiration for their journeys ahead.
