Laura Gil Savastano, born in Montevideo (Uruguay), has been Ambassador of Colombia to Austria since August 1, 2023. She attended St. John’s College in the United States and continued her education at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. During the course of her studies, she had already been involved in international relations. Her previous fields of activity gave her extensive professional experience.
As the Deputy Foreign Minister of Colombia, she’s already been involved in diplomatic operations. Her further inerests and challenges focus on media relations and collaboration with international agencies, disarmament control and conflict management.Gender policy and therefore the development of equality as well as the exclusion of discrimination have always been and continue to be constant areas which need support.
In order to establish constructive and conflict-solving communication, it can occur that you do not have to adapt to the views of another country. Ms. Laura Gil believes that disagreements in an area between two or more countries can occur, but do not necessarily have to be the reason for excluding cooperation.The Colombian embassy is also a member of the “Group of Friends of Civil Society“. Civil Society is supported at all possible levels. Ms. Laura Gil is also the head of the „G77 plus China“ group in Vienna, which is known since 1964. The main aim of the G 77 is firstly, to strengthen cooperation among each other.
With 52 million inhabitants, Colombia offers an impressive variety of attractions. On the one hand the Amazon region and on the other hand the scenic impressions of the rivers. In some areas you can see famous fincas on which the production of a wide variety of fruits is based.
Ms. Laura Gil continues to promote and strengthen Colombian society in Vienna She pursuits access to equal rights for all genders and want to strengthen this issue. By inviting people to her embassy she has set an example for cohesion and a willingness to help for civil society.
